So, I’ve been thinking about doing this site overhaul/starting a blog thing for a while, but what really inspired me to do it, finally, was musician Jonathan Coulton’s site. It’s a pretty simple site, but it’s clear and easy to navigate and, most of all, has good content. The simplicity of it is probably part of what made me say, “Hey, I can do that.” The good music he makes and good feedback he’s gotten made me say, “Hey, I want that.”
Of course, it’s turned out more complicated than it first looked, but that’s another story.
Anyway, the point is that I’ve at least been inspired by a lot of his ideas and probably stolen some ideas outright so I just wanted to make sure I gave him his due credit. If you like my music, you’ll probably like his too. The style is different, but I think he’s a kindred spirit comedically, with great songs like his ode to Ikea and his deservingly buzzed about super-excellent folky poppy cover of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s Baby Got Back. You can find them both here. Also, he’s unemployed, I’m unemployed, so…um…we’re both unemployed.
Oh, and I might as well just say now that I’ll probably rip off his “Thing a Week” idea, but disguise it by calling it “A New Item Every 168 hours” (yes, I needed a calculator for that) or something.
I’ll just hope that, should he ever visit this site, he’ll be honored, not angry. Or something.
